Internship on experience of tuberculosis and HIV programs in Latvia

On behalf of project TUBIDU - Empowering Civil Society and Public Health System to Fight Tuberculosis Epidemic Among Vulnerable groups system, co-funded by European Commission, Tuberculosis Foundation of Latvia in collaboration with National Institute of Health Development, Estonia, are organizing internship for community based organizations and health care institutions staff working with vulnerable groups injective drug users (IDU) and people living with HIV (PLHIV) from 17 to 21 of September, 2012 in Latvia.
During internship organized in Latvia, participants will be introduced with work and share experience of TB and HIV programs in Latvia, visit HIV/AIDS counselling centre, TB and Lung Disease outpatient department, observe multidisciplinary team work with vulnerable groups- IDU and PLHIV, including patients education and effective heath care communication, as well as learn the DOT (directly observed therapy) system and contact tracing in Latvia. Also participants will have a chance to visit World Health organization Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Management of MDR-TB of Latvia.
The main aims of internship are to exchange experience, to learn from each other for future introduction improvements in participants respective countries; observing and discussing process of work and service delivery in the hosting organization; at the end of internship participants should develop recommendations both for the hosting organization and the home organizations on how to improve service provision and system.
