Today ITPC launched MTT8, Rationing Funds, Risking Lives: World Backtracks On HIV Treatment bringing together research from six countries - India, Kenya, Latvia, Malawi, Swaziland and Venezuela - which documents early warning signs resulting from the global pull back on AIDS commitment and funding: caps on the number of people enrolled in treatment programs, more frequent drug stock outs, and national AIDS budgets falling short.
The report comes at a time when there are increasing calls for the Obama administration to reverse the flatlining of PEPFAR - as the impact is already grave with new patients not being enrolled in treatment programmes. This week the Global Fund Board meeting takes place in Geneva and once again G8 and other donors are being stingy with their contributions which will further jeopardise access to treatment.
